Statements on COVID-19 about School Format

NEW: Second statement, May 25th: After carefully reviewing the current COVID-19 situation and measures required by Chilean authorities and within the AURA facilitiesm the Scientific and Local Organizing Committees have decided to host the 2022 school in an online format. The school will run in August 1–12 (excluding Saturday and Sunday) and will follow a similar format as in 2021. You can refer to the 2021 school program for reference. Our online program comprises synchronous and asynchronous activities. The former are held using the Zoom platform. As part of the participation, the organization will provide school materials in a "Welcome Box" that we deliver to the house of each participant.

First statement, February 8th: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the final format for the 2022 school has not been decided yet. The Organizing Committees will make a decision for either in-person or online by April 29th, based on the COVID-19 situation and the requirements of the national Chilean health authorities and the recommendations from US health autorhoties that AURA follows, and it will be announced on this webpage. In the case of an in-person school, the school will be hosted at the AURA facilities in La Serena, Chile. In the case of an online school, the school combines synchronous and asynchronous sessions. Initially, we expect the synchronous sessions to comprise ~3 hours per day and sessions are hosted via Zoom.

Registration Fees and Scholarships

Even though there are costs associated to the execution of the online school, thanks to funding from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) as well as the Center for Mathematical Modeling (CMM/UChile), REUNA and ANID in Chile, most students selected from U.S. and Chilean institutions will receive full scholarships that cover all the school cost. In addition, thanks to funding from CEDIA, students from Ecuadorian universities members of CEDIA are eligible for full scholarships too. Additionally, the CMM has made possible to offer scholarships to students in Latin American institutions. The scholarship application is part of the registration form, so students should be sure to identify their residency and/or citizenship and fill out the appropriate scholarship information on the registration form. Selected students non-eligible for scholarships will be required to cover their registration costs through their own funding sources.
